Cruel and Unusual?

(AP) -- The drugs used to execute prisoners in the United States sometimes fail to work as planned, causing slow and painful deaths that probably violate constitutional bans on cruel and unusual punishment, a new medical review of dozens of executions concludes.

Now, I have a large amount of compassion. But at the same time, I am particular in who gets this compassion. I always mourn for the victim, not the attacker. We live in a society of law. These laws are in place to discourage or otherwise prevent a citizen's rights and livelihoods from being violated. These rights are a creation of mankind since there is no such thing as a natural right. What right does a gazelle have to life when hunted by the lion? What right does a man have to life while being battered by ruthless waves in the middle of the ocean?

None. These rights are nothing more than another human invention. We hairless apes have adopted tools in order to survive. Without tools, we would perish. But tools need not be a hammer or a spear. They can also be ideology, law and principle. These things are created for the benefit of civilized life. Even the belief that those laws and ideals are unchangeable are nothing more than assurances to keep the masses at ease.

So, just as man has given society its rules, should man not be able to apply them only to people who obey these rules? You can't have it both ways. You should not be able to violate the right to life given by the people and its government or an individual or individuals and then claim that same right.

By rejecting the laws of civilized society, you have made a choice to enact in a barbaric, uncivilized manner. And when a man is stripped of his civility, he is no longer a civilized man. He is instead nothing but a hairless ape. An animal. And all animals that pose a threat to civilized man should be eradicated.

What's the harm?

TEHRAN, Iran — President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Monday proposed holding talks with U.S. President George W. Bush — a surprise suggestion from the hard-line leader whose country is at odds with Washington over its disputed nuclear program and involvement in Iraq, Iran's state-run Arabic satellite TV channel reported.
From Foxnews.com

Honestly, I don't see a drawback to talking to the Iranians. It's not like we are agreeing to anything like a demand. I know that it might seem like a shock to hear a staunch conservative like me saying this, but I can't really think of a drawback.

Denying the talks would just prove to the world that there is no reasoning with the US. Then again, perhaps an image that America is affraid of Iran could be painted. Though anyone with the slightest idea of what our military can do would easily dismiss that thought.

I think having them state their mad agendas in public could do some good for our side. America does not get a good dose of what the Iranians want and are left with what is essentially propaganda. Propaganda can only go unquestioned for so long though before people start asking questions. Then from those questions come mad theories that people will believe if it is said enough times. I actually know a man who is convinced that Iran is a perfect example of democracy.

So go ahead Iran, tell the world why a nation that has repeatedly stated its desire to wipe another nation off the map should be allowed to have facilities capable of creating nuclear weapons.

A cause for celebration!

AUSTIN - Backers of a Senate bill to toughen punishment for child-sex
offenders said they've reached a deal that would permit the death penalty for
offenders who repeatedly prey on children.
The compromise bill, which was distributed to Senate members on Tuesday, would allow the death penalty only for those twice convicted of raping a child 13 or younger. It also boosts mandatory minimum sentences for a variety of sex crimes against children.

This is wonderful news. I sometimes wish I was a Texan. Predators enjoy too many slap on the wrist penalties. When they do what they do, they scar the child for life. We do not need people like them in our society.

TRAITOR!

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid should be tried for treason and then hanged. By declaring that "this war is lost" he has given encouragement to our enemies.
Listen people with common sense, I agree that Bush is about the dumbest thing to come into office, but for crying out loud, this is NOT about Bush. This is about dealing with a situation that we are in whether we like it or not. I personally don't care for the fact that so many of our men and women are dying for an apathetic Iraq. I think that our interest in oil was a deciding factor in our going there. But damn it, regardless of that, WE ARE THERE. And the most important thing to remember is that what we do will determine what happens next.
Consider this. D-Day is a disaster, the invasion has failed. Both the Axis and the Allies are willing to call a truce due to the exhausting of both our funds. Would it have been acceptable to make peace with the Nazis in the name of taking the easy way out? Or would it have been more costly in human life to call a truce?
There is a similar debacle to consider. Consider that we back down from Iraq. I could personally care less what happens to them after seeing their disdain for our assistance. But what would be the disaster is that enemy would know that their barbaric tactics work. That by sawing off the heads of innocent people, blowing up government offices and innocent men women and children in crowded markets is the way to achieve what they want.
That my friends is the real danger. The message we send them. By admitting defeat, Harry Reid has encouraged the enemy to continue their attacks in the hopes that the politicians will favor propaganda over the decency of civilized life.

Ban on Partial Birth Abortions

I'm very pleased to see that this practice has been banned. It might be understandable that an abortion to a few groups of cells is causing no harm, but partial birth abortions deal with nearly developed fetuses. When it comes to the debate of abortion, I often find myself leaning to the right, however, I can understand that such a solid "NO" answer can be devastating and dangerous. This is one of those things that are beyond acceptable. The belief that a fetus isn't a human until after it exits the womb is so black and white that it makes my head spin.
To me, the argument, "Its my body" has never made any sense to me since we are talking about an abortion, not a suicide. I am not my mother's body. The thing is, abortion is too often viewed as a get out of jail free card. A woman and a man get to fool around, act irresponsibly and only the fetus needs to pay the price. Well, to me, that is totally unfair.
So am I like all the other right wingers who think the practice should be banned across the board? No. I try to make a decision in the shoes of a loving father who's daughter has just become pregnant. I personally think that she should be responsible for her actions, but if she HAS to do it, I would rather it be done in the office of a well trained professional rather than risk her life trying to do it herself.
To me, there is no issue that is truly black and white. Often times, though I am a proud right winger, both the left and the right can be wrong by simplifying the issues.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised

With the bodies of the slain barely turning cold and the families of the fallen just learning of their loved ones fates, we see a spectacle worthy of the word grotesque. Vile creatures emerge once again to feed on the fears and emotions of both victims and spectators alike. The same people who made political speeches instead of eulogies at Rosa Parks' funeral have once again returned to turn a tragedy into a political advantage.
Like many radical leftist special interest groups, the anti second amendment people have jumped on this atrocity with fervor and without mercy. "Guns kill people", they screech as they take a moment to poke their heads out of the carcasses. Why, even in Europe, they have decided to blame the incident on non other than Charlton Heston. Charlton Heston! Have they gone mad?!
I guess that is a silly question. The liberal stigma has infected their brains so much that they will swallow any bit of propaganda their socialist state run news stations tell them. I'm not even really that mad that they are against our right to bare arms. What ticks me off is the ferocity in which their attacks have come, and so soon after this tragedy occurred.
A time to debate will come. And I will welcome that debate, in time. I originally posted this blog with the intent to push my views on the right to bare arms, but I will not stoop to their level. Instead I will pray for the victims and their families.
