What's the harm?

TEHRAN, Iran — President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Monday proposed holding talks with U.S. President George W. Bush — a surprise suggestion from the hard-line leader whose country is at odds with Washington over its disputed nuclear program and involvement in Iraq, Iran's state-run Arabic satellite TV channel reported.
From Foxnews.com

Honestly, I don't see a drawback to talking to the Iranians. It's not like we are agreeing to anything like a demand. I know that it might seem like a shock to hear a staunch conservative like me saying this, but I can't really think of a drawback.

Denying the talks would just prove to the world that there is no reasoning with the US. Then again, perhaps an image that America is affraid of Iran could be painted. Though anyone with the slightest idea of what our military can do would easily dismiss that thought.

I think having them state their mad agendas in public could do some good for our side. America does not get a good dose of what the Iranians want and are left with what is essentially propaganda. Propaganda can only go unquestioned for so long though before people start asking questions. Then from those questions come mad theories that people will believe if it is said enough times. I actually know a man who is convinced that Iran is a perfect example of democracy.

So go ahead Iran, tell the world why a nation that has repeatedly stated its desire to wipe another nation off the map should be allowed to have facilities capable of creating nuclear weapons.
